Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects individuals in many different ways, making each person's experience unique. One helpful way to visualize this diversity is through the autism wheel, a tool that illustrates the wide range of characteristics and challenges faced by people on the spectrum. In this post, I will explain the autism wheel and share my approach to treatment, which focuses on personalized support tailored to each individual's needs.

What Is the Autism Wheel?

The autism wheel is a visual representation that captures the variety of traits and behaviors associated with autism. Instead of viewing autism as a single condition, the wheel shows how different traits interact. These traits include communication styles, sensory sensitivities, social skills, interests, behaviors and more.

The wheel encourages a holistic view, emphasizing strengths as well as challenges. Everyone on the spectrum has a different wheel with different traits. Understanding these areas helps create a clear picture of an individual's unique profile.
